Case Study: The Success and Scope of the #GlobalCampus Initiative

To illustrate the power of social media in action, we examine the highly effective #GlobalCampus campaign, a student-led initiative that successfully connected University of Niagara Falls students with peers in Canada, Ontario. Learn how this initiative combatted social isolation and fostered digital cultural exchanges.

Background & Goals

Defining the Digital Mission:

The #GlobalCampus initiative's goal was simple: combat social isolation among international students by encouraging local students to participate in "digital twin" cultural exchanges for one semester. The main platform was Instagram. We focused on authenticity, consistent engagement, and maximizing reach through Instagram Stories.

Key success factors

Our success hinges on several factors:

Authenticity: All content was UGC, focusing on daily student life (e.g., "What I Eat for Breakfast Here"). Consistent Engagement: Daily "Question Sticker" Q&A sessions broke the ice and fostered genuine dialogue. Platform Fit: Using Instagram Stories maximized reach and promoted a sense of immediacy and low-pressure sharing.
